About April
[Pronouns: she / her / hers ]
As a member of our teacher team, April Nishimura co-facilitates offerings in our public training program, focusing on Coaching Skills for BIPOC Leaders.
April has 15 years of experience building power and resilience in communities of color. April has stewarded numerous organizations through leadership transitions and deep organizational change. She draws upon her work as a community organizer and her work in the labor movement, and for racial equity, healing justice & LGBTQ rigths.
April is passionate about creating teams and workplaces that unlock people’s full potential. As the Director of Capacity Building at RVC, April crafted a methodology to increase BIPOC organizations’ ability to achieve their missions and be great places to work. She also built an amazing, joy-filled team of BIPOC women who provided coaching and capacity building to numerous grassroots organizations in the Pacific Northwest. Prior to this, she implemented an EDI initiative among 100 organizations across the Puyallup watershed. She is also the co-founder of a healing justice organization for LGBTQ BIPOC.
As a coach, she is constantly inspired by the inner wisdom within each of us. She also draws inspiration from connecting with her Japanese heritage. In her free time, April trains in Chado (the Japanese way of tea), volunteers at her local Sake brewery, and spends time at the ocean.
