Manage Your Energy, Reclaim Your Time:
A Path to Personal Sustainability for Black Leaders
(2-Part Series)
a CompassPoint workshop offered in partnership with
How has your relationship to time and energy changed since the pandemic?
Since the pandemic began, it seems like everyone is feeling the strain of burnout in deep and long-lasting ways. For many Black leaders, the demands to support their communities through turbulent times, keep organizations running, and tend to life amidst multiple crises has taken an especially heavy toll.
How we think about time and energy, particularly when it comes to work-life balance, has fundamentally shifted in this moment: self-care conversations have moved to the center of our collective attention, people are re-evaluating their relationships to work, and plenty of folks are asking critical questions about sustaining themselves in social justice organizations and movements. Now, more than ever, we need spaces that recognize this changing orientation to our most precious resources: our energy and time—particularly spaces that prioritize the needs and experiences of Black leaders doing social change work.
In light of this, we are excited to offer content from our time and energy workshop with Black leaders in mind.
Who is this training for?
This is a space for participants in the Resilience Initiative who are Black leaders working in nonprofit organizations and social justice movement spaces, who wish to explore what it means to manage their time and energy differently in the context of social change work.
In this online workshop, you will:
-
Identify obstacles—internal, interpersonal, and institutional—that are hindering personal sustainability
-
Learn a framework for energy management that includes the four core energy needs: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual
-
Learn new perspectives, strategies, and practices for self-care by understanding how to manage your energy and time differently
Get ready to participate!
Our trainings come alive with your participation and willingness to engage. Please be ready to participate in small and large group discussions and share your experience, creativity, questions, and challenges with us. For example, we will ask you to do an energy self-assessment and brainstorm energy management strategies and practices together. We'll share visual and verbal information, make time for group discussions, and create other opportunities for real-time participation.
