Welcome to Thriving Roots, a network we've dreamed of for years! This community is designed to affirm and celebrate Black leadership in the progressive nonprofit sector.
Thriving Roots isn't just an idea—it's an answer to the needs we've heard from Black leaders like you who have participated in CompassPoint programs. We want this to be a space where we are learning to interrupt and dismantle oppressive practices instead of building on the inequities of the past.

Who all gone be there?
This invitation was exclusively shared with members of our CompassPoint community who have participated in our learning spaces (cohort programs, public workshops, and peer networks). Many of you have been part of at least one of CompassPoint's Black-focused programs, such as Self-Care for Black Women in Leadership, Next Generation Black Leaders, and the Black Equity Project, among others. Over the past six years, we have designed and facilitated numerous spaces for Black leaders, and we believe it's now time to bring all of you together.
How does Thriving Roots Network build peer power?
Our listservs serve as a vibrant platform where hundreds of nonprofit leaders exchange questions, advice, challenges, and wisdom in a spirit of mutual support. We expect these forums to be highly active, populated by experienced leaders, and rich with valuable information. Joining is an excellent way to combat the isolation often experienced by those in nonprofit and philanthropic roles, especially for those striving to maintain a Pro-Black, equity-focused, and justice-oriented approach to their work.
By registering, you will access opportunities to:
- Build Your Ecosystem. Connect with other passionate Black leaders in the nonprofit world. Let's build our support systems and communities of practice.
- Grow Your Leadership. Dive into rich discussions, join training sessions, and participate in virtual and in-person events tailored to fuel your leadership journey.
- Learn Together. Share your wisdom, tackle challenges, and explore new ideas with fellow Black leaders. Your experiences are invaluable—let's learn from each other!
- Amplify Our Voices. Be part of a collective that advocates for Black leadership in progressive spaces. Now, more than ever, we need to stand together for equity and justice.

The 2025 membership fee for joining this network is $75. This price includes access to the Thriving Roots Network hosted on the Mighty Works platform, virtual and in-person gatherings, and resources.
